Do you need to worry about AIDS?

What do the statistics show?
Approximately 98% of AIDS cases are due to direct contact with someone involved in a homosexual lifestyle (including homosexuals and their partners) or IV drug use. Of the 8,086 children with AIDS, over 98% of those cases were transmitted by the child's infected mother. Virtually all other cases of AIDS were contracted through contaminated fluids, obviously with a 98% probability that those fluids came from someone directly involved with a homosexual lifestyle or IV drug use.

Using conservative numbers, homosexuals alone account for at least 55 percent of AIDS cases, yet they represent only about two percent of the overall population. This means that a homosexual lifestyle is at least 60 times more likely to result in AIDS than a heterosexual lifestyle.

Engaging in a homosexual lifestyle also places an individual at a much higher risk of contracting other sexually transmitted diseases. Around the world, higher levels of homosexual activity consistently result in higher rates of sexually transmitted diseases.

These are facts. They are neither hateful nor judgmental, although some have claimed the contrary. But what do the facts mean? Why are they so lopsided? Could there be an underlying reason that drug-free monogamous heterosexuals have virtually no chance of contracting AIDS, while homosexuals and drug users are at extremely high risk?

What does the Bible say?

Obviously, God must have known what He was talking about when He defined morality. Like it or not, His commands make sense...especially in the light of the AIDS statistics.

The statistics clearly show that, realistically, AIDS is only a threat to those who refuse to live within the Biblical code of moral behavior. In fact, the National Institute of Health published a study in the June 19, 1998 issue of Science which confirms this:

The largest randomized, controlled, HIV behavioral intervention study conducted in the US found that even among persons considered hardest to reach, behavioral interventions can cut high-risk sexual behaviors in half...and reduce the incidence of gonorrhea in men by half; incidence of gonorrhea is an indicator of unprotected sexual behavior.

In other words, a simple change in behavior drastically reduced the incidence of STDs. Not expensive medical research or medications, but a simple change in behavior. It is amazing that so many intelligent people patently reject this method as part of the solution to the AIDS problem...I once asked a skeptical doctor if, given no other factor but my monogamous drug-free lifestyle, I was at any significant risk of contracting AIDS. "No," he said, but then immediately tried to discount my lifestyle as a factor. His medical training forced him to recognize the obvious connection between behavior and risk, but his political views made him deaf to the truth coming out of his own mouth!

It is terrible that so many people suffer from AIDS, and they should receive the love of Christ from the Christian community as well as the best medical treatment available; however, the truth about their disease should not be overlooked or disregarded: the vast majority of those who suffer from AIDS do so as a direct result of their conscious, willful choice of an immoral lifestyle. In a very real sense, AIDS is a physical manifestation of their utter spiritual darkness. The real travesty is that almost 13,000 people must deal with the terror of AIDS even though they were apparently not involved in a homosexual, drug-using, or otherwise sexually immoral lifestyle. It is the difference between someone being run over by a drunk driver, and a drunk driver hitting a tree.

If you believe that homosexuality is a normal, healthy lifestyle, or that ten percent of the American population is homosexual, or that psychologists do not consider homosexuality to be a disease, or that people are "born homosexual" and cannot change, then you would do well to read Homosexuality: Fact & Fiction by Joseph P. Aren't we being intolerant?
"Tolerance" is a common byword these days, and many homosexuals hide beneath its banner while they are fighting for "special rights" to protect and encourage a lifestyle that is destroying America with its disease-ridden immorality. Fortunately, "tolerance" does not mean "ignorance." Of the total research funds used for AIDS, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and stroke, 78 percent goes to AIDS research alone...a grossly disproportionate amount. Although AIDS is incurable, the statistics clearly show that it is eminently avoidable. Is it right to divert research funds away from the diabetic--who had no ability to avoid his disease--and spend them instead on the homosexual or drug user with AIDS, who could have avoided it with a simple change in behavior? AIDS research, while certainly important, simply does not merit its present percentage of research funding.

Many homosexual writers and liberal theologians claim that the Bible does not really take a specific stand against homosexuality, but their logic has serious flaws. They deny the authority of the myriad scriptural mandates against homosexual behavior because, they say, the scriptures have been "taken out of context," yet they themselves take verses out of context in an attempt to support their arguments. A classic example is Ezekiel 16:49, which these misguided authors use to support their claim that Sodom and Gomorrah's sin was not homosexuality, but inhospitality. They omit the next verse, Ezekiel 16:50, which clearly states that God's judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah was because of the "detestable things" they did. Inhospitality is never referred to anywhere in scripture as "detestable," but homosexuality is (Leviticus 18:22 et. al.). Another common argument is that the Biblical mandates do not apply to "monogamous homosexuals in a committed relationship." They would have you believe that homosexuality--which, according to Paul, is indicative of the most depraved state of the human existence (Romans 1:27-28)--is somehow conducive to a monogamous, committed relationship. They would have you believe that homosexuals are very normal, loving, committed people, just like anyone else; however, this is simply not true. Want a reality check? Witness one "gay pride" parade, and you will understand, without question, that homosexuality is a depraved condition. If you still cling to the notion that the Bible condones homosexuality in any way, you should read The Error of Homosexuality by Didaskalos Ministries.

Those who engage in a homosexual lifestyle tend to suffer from many uncommon problems, both physcial and psychological in nature. Many attempt to place the blame for this on those who uphold the Biblical standard of morality; as the argument goes, Biblical morality makes these people feel guilty and worthless, leading to their psychological problems, which lead in turn to their physical problems. The fact of the matter is that involvement in homosexual activity is a clear indicator of pre-existing internal strife, which naturally leads to outward manifestations of destructive behavior. For example, studies show that homosexual and bisexual behavior is strongly linked to a greater propensity for pedophilia. A homosexual lifestyle is not only potentially very dangerous to the individuals involved, but to uninvolved innocent children as well. These facts are not popular with the homosexual lobby, but they are true nonetheless.

If you are involved in a homosexual or otherwise immoral lifestyle, you should seek Christ, for He alone can heal completely, restoring you to an abundant, joyful life. According to some counselors, "low self-esteem" is somehow a factor in contracting AIDS. It is also a factor in depression, drug use, and suicide. What better cure for your self-esteem than to realize that the Creator of the universe loves you--personally--enough to die for you? Jesus is waiting for you...waiting to love you, to heal you, to free you. If you derive your self-worth solely from your relationship with Christ, then nothing can ever take it away from you.

As a Christian, you need to find practical ways to minister to those involved in homosexuality and demonstrate the love of Christ. It is your duty to speak the truth in love, and try, using peaceful and democratic means, to stop this kind of madness before it consumes our nation. Our nation's physical and spiritual welfare hangs in the balance.
